Sunflowers and Bluebird Oval Box Card

Hello again my crafty friend, it’s Amanda from Pear Blossom Press. Like many people around the world, I’ve been saddened by the terrible events taking place in Ukraine. I know that handmade cards aren’t going to solve things, but for me, making them can be therapeutic. Today, I’d like to share one of the cards I made, in the hope of lifting spirits.

This card is an oval box card. I’ve shared many others over the past year or so since i-crafter released the die set; they have become my favorite kind of box cards. One of the things I love most about them is that they pop up and look like a sculpture to put on display. It allows you to create a 3D card with a 360° view. I choose to create a field of sunflowers on a bright blue base. As a symbol of hope and love, I tucked in a little bluebird. And to help bring a smile to the recipient’s face, I chose HELLO SUNSHINE for the sentiment.

Here are the supplies I used to make this card…

Supply List
Oval Box Pop Die Set
Classic Circles Die Set
Mailbox Die Set
Hello Sunshine Wiper Die Set
Kumiko Stencil
i-Mend Self Mending PRO Deck Cutting Plate
i-Press Burnisher and Pad
i-Grip Locking Tweezers
i-Clik Pick

Since I was making this card for me, I didn’t take photos along the way. If you’re inspired to make a similar card, don’t worry, it’s easy to recreate. (If you’ve never made an oval box card, check out this post for step-by-step photos and a video tutorial.)

I used the flowers that are included in the Oval Box Pop Die Set, but to make them look more like sunflowers, I added bigger brown circles to the centers. The large circles felt a little plain, so I dry embossed them with a stencil for texture. (Alternatively, you can score crosshatch lines on the circles with your scoreboard, but the stencil trick or an embossing folder is faster when you have a lot to do.) Make sure to decorate both sides of each flower and the little bluebird, so no matter what angle the card is viewed from, it looks great.

I hope my card helps brighten your day. And I hope the messages of peace and love make their way into the hearts of those who need them most now.

Thanks so much for stopping by today. I’ll be back soon with more fun cards to share.
