Home Decor Maple Leaf Garland

Folded Maple Leaf

Hi there everyone. It’s Lauren here to share a way to use the Folded Maple Leaf die set to create home decor. Autumn is such a beautiful time of year for maple trees. The colors that the leaves turn are absolutely gorgeous! I tried to capture some of that color in the leaf garland I created.

What I did first was to color tissue paper using water color paint in shades of yellow, orange and red. You can also do this with Distress Oxide inks by smooshing the ink pad directly on the mat then spritzing with water.  I laid the water color paint onto my glass mat then laid the tissue paper over top of the color. I waited for the tissue paper to dry, then repeated the steps for different colors.

Once the tissue papers had dried, I used the leaf die to cut multiple leaves in order to create my garland. Because the tissue paper is so thin, I stacked it in about 4 layers and ran it through my die cutting machine.

Then I started creating the leaf shape by folding along the score lines like an accordion, folding along the center score line and then adhering the center together to create the leaf.

When I had created all my leaves, I made 20 in total for my mantle, I adhered them to pieces of rafia ribbon then onto my mantle. I had a few leaves left over so I placed them onto a burlap board and put it on my mantle as well.

This is a pretty way to bring some of that fall color into your home I hope this inspires you to use this great Maple leaf set to create your own home decor.
