Kokeshi Envelopes

Hey i-Crafters! Justin here, and today I am sharing a fun spin on the Kokeshi Dress Up Doll Die Set, part of the super fun January Release, that I created!

The Kokeshi Dolls are incredibly adorable, and would be perfect on any type of project, so I decided to use them with the mini envelope die from Animal Mini Envelopes and give them a neon twist!

First, I took 2 6″ x 9″ pieces of blending cardstock. Individually, I placed the Japanese Kumiko Stencil over top, and blended splotchy neon colors. One panel, I blended pink, orange and yellow. The 2nd, I blended purple, blue and pink!

Because I wanted to make 2 envelopes, I needed to cut 2 dolls, so each of these steps need to be duplicated. I die cut the face, body and hair pieces from the Kokeshi Dress Up Die Set in white blending cardstock. Then, from black cardstock, I die cut the sticks for the hair, the V for the dress, the eye pieces, the sandal straps, and also the words “Hooray” from the Celebration Inserts Wiper set and “Hello” from the Flip Card- Dashed Circles set out of black cardstock. Then, I die cut all of the garment pieces, flowers, “Hello”, “Hooray” and envelope pieces from each of Japanese Kumiko ink-blended panels.

Tip: There are a good amount of little die cut pieces used in these Kokeshi Dress Up Dolls, so I would highly recommend using some sort of embellishment tray to hold your die cut images while you’re working! This helps keep them all in one place!

Using Copic Markers, I colored the hair and skin for each of the dolls, and began piecing/adhering them together. I wanted them to be opposites of one another, so each time you see an ink-blended pattern appear on one doll’s project, it is the opposite on the other doll. Once the dolls were all put together, I adhered the envelopes together, along with each of the words being matted with black cardstock.

I put each of the dolls on an Animal Mini Envelopes with a sentiment, added a couple sequin embellishments, and my projects were complete!
